History

The Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel Operational Research Institute (ISG-ORI) was established in early 2026 through the transformation of the Operational Research Centre in Healthcare (ORCH), which was founded in 2022 as the 33rd research center of Near East University. The Center was created to address complex healthcare problems using operational research methodologies, multi-criteria decision-making techniques, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. From its inception, the Center adopted an interdisciplinary structure, bringing together experts from medicine, engineering, mathematics, biostatistics, economics, computer science, and applied sciences.

Within a short period, the Center achieved significant academic productivity, publishing extensively in high-impact international journals and presenting research outcomes at prestigious conferences. Its scope gradually expanded beyond healthcare to include environmental systems, energy, decision sciences, and intelligent systems. Due to its growing academic output, international collaborations, and leadership in large-scale projects, the Center exceeded the conventional capacity of a research center and was formally elevated to an institute, honoring the vision and academic legacy of Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel.
